Defective Floor Mats

Toyota issued its most recent round of recalls after an August 2009 accident in California, in which a California Highway Patrol officer and three passengers were killed when the gas pedal on their Lexus became stuck under the floor mat, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash. Toyota announced a recall to repair misshapen floor mats that were thought to interfere with the accelerator pedals, causing vehicles to accelerate out of control while in operation. The company claimed that the floor mats were not compatible with the accelerator pedal or not properly secured, which trapped the accelerator pedal beneath the mat. The following Toyota and Lexus models are involved in the recall:

Toyota

2007–2010 Camry
2005–2010 Avalon
2004–2009 Prius
2005–2010 Tacoma
2007–2010 Tundra
2008–2010 Highlander
2009–2010 Corolla
2009–2010 Venza
2009–2010 Matrix

Lexus

2006–2010 IS 250
2006–2010 IS 350
2007–2010 ES 350
