Botox, manufactured by Allergan, is a popular cosmetic treatment administered to patients primarily for the treatment of wrinkles. Botulinium Toxin Type A, the neurotoxin in Botox, is extremely dangerous at full strength. In mild doses, however, Botox relaxes the muscles in the face, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Botox can also be used for medical purposes, such as the treatment of migraines or cervical dystonia. The FDA recently required a black box warning label for all Botox packaging which informs consumers that serious side effects, such as difficulty with breathing and swallowing, may result from injections of the product because the Botox may seep from the injection site and spread to other parts of the body.
